Fun and Festival…With a Purpose

Summer climaxed with a glorious afternoon of expression and movement – and laughter – as the Cerebral Palsy League family celebrated Family Fun Day at the end of Carnival Week. Students and their families enjoyed carnival games – including a home-made, life-size Skee-Ball game built and donated by a talented family member – and a dunking tank for school principal Barry Bullis – who longed for the sweltering heat of early August. The day ended with a barbecue and summer slide show recapping the activities of the Jardine Academy’s extended school year summer session. More than 40 families attended – although pie-in-the-face volunteer Stephanie Peters, the school’s music therapist, felt like it was 400.

To allow students to enjoy the feeling of summer while building on the progress they made and retain skills they developed during the regular school year, Jardine runs theme weeks throughout the extended session, such as Super Hero Week, Messy Science Week, Undersea Week, Camping Week and Carnival Week.  During Carnival Week students enjoyed tumbling and egg races, Clown Day and Family Fun Day.
